Information After leaving Durham, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in 1988 working in Toronto for two years before returning to the UK to join JPMorgan Chase. My role is based in London and Bournemouth, working with clients throughout Europe to determine methods of accounting for and reporting all types of financial instruments.
Things I Wish I'd Known At University:
The key benefits of university education are learning how to assimalate complex information, identify the key elements from the "chaff", frame the key points in a logical manner, formulate a logical argument then present and be able to argue a conclusion in a compelling manner.

At KPMG:
Lots of smart people can learn the detailed technical stuff to pass the exams but if you can't explain and communicate it to non-accountants, then its of very little benfit.

At JPMorgan Chase:
Dealing with clients (and other parties) in multiple countries over which you have no direct control requires specific skills and appreciation of cultural differences to get the required results.
