Information | I taught in Mombasa, Kenya as my first teaching job which was a vertical learning curve to say the least! I was there for 2 years teaching Geo and History and had a flat on the beach! In 1997 I moved to Botswana. Why leave the beach? Well the school was badly run, we didn't get paid much and I'd visited pretty much everywhere I wanted to. I taught Geo and Business Studies in a Government school in the north of Botswana for 6 years and then moved to the capital, Gaborone, in the south where I was Head of Geography for two years. I now teach Geo and History part time after 5 months maternity leave. |
Things I Wish I'd Known | Don't be afraid of what's out there. Give it a go! I started teaching so that I could live and work abroad. I had travelled a lot but wanted the extra experience of living in a place longer term. Now I love teaching and am about to embark on a Masters Degree in Geo although I always thought I would get a proper job later on! The kids here want to learn and are brilliant to teach. |
