News: Grey Alumnus appointed as Vice Master

An Alumnus of Grey has been appointed as Vice Master. Dr Peter Swift will fill this role from 1st February next year.

The role of Senior Tutor is being replaced in Durham by that of Vice Master. As Vice Master, Peter will play a key role in developing the College as a scholarly community, including the development of programmes to support students in raising employability and in all aspects of personal and academic development.

Peter is currently a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Physics, having been an undergraduate student in Maths & Physics at Grey College. He completed his PhD at Durham before working for a University spin-out, Durham Photonics Ltd. Peter has maintained his links with Grey and is currently the SCR treasurer and College Mentor (the old College Tutor role). Outside work, Peter is a keen cricketer and also plays the organ in various churches around Durham.

We offer him our congratulations, and wish him good luck with his new challenges!
